flower

Just had a gorgeous visit from a very good friend and his fabulously talened and lovely girlfriend - it was such a pleasure to have them around; we were a bit lonely when they left! But I was also incredibly inspired, and this is the first completed cut from few sketches I made while they were here....

Inspired by Susan

I recieved this very cool ottoman-pouf for christmas made by my incredibly talented/gorgeous friend Susan (who has no blog that I can gratuitiously link to), and it totally inspired me to create this papercut, I have been thinking about it for ages but I have been unsure of the physics of the thing. Finally I just sat down with my peice of paper and cut and cut, and ta da! It looks so simple now it is complete. Thanks Susan, you rule! Thankyou also to this book for all the awesome reference materieal, without which my skeleton wouldn't look quite so good. and thanks to my mum for giving it to me.

seeds

seeds are so cool, I planted some some tiny sunflower seeds some weeks ago and their big grey heads are just about to burst into sunshiny flowers....magic! I also had some tiny tomato plants come up by themselves (part of a discarded sandwich perhaps?) in really terrible grey sandy soil and with a little love and attention they are now weighed down with gorgeous fruit! My tiny vege patch has inspired this papercut....

hills hoist

I know its a bit strange, but I love hills hoist clothes lines. they just rock. Especially ones like this with the big steel winding bit. I had one of these when I was growing up and I have one now, and I just had to make it into a papercut. It took ages, lots of reference material and photos of the one in our backyard to get the perspective right, but its just perfect!
One of my favourite things is to lie on the ground beneath it and watch the washing flap around in the breeze............

happy new year!

wow, 2011 is here and i feel like I didn't really get to know 2010, she just whooshed by so fast. My new year's eve was sedate but so lovely, some great friends of ours came to visit with their gorgeous 4 month old, she was such a joy to have around. we had a power failure at around 10pm, and we sat in the lounge talking with only the beam from a tiny solar LED torch to light the room, it was so cool. here is my latest papercut, I am working on a bigger one and it is coming along sooooo slowly which is why I haven't got much to post here. ta ta!

a rainy day

Welcome to the house of Sick. Ruby had the chickenpox vaccination the other day, and what do you know? She now has chickenpox. I, on the other hand, have a more run-of-the-mill cold. So I was up pretty early this morning with a grumpy, teary, feverish two-year-old, and while she enjoyed dora the explorer and rubbed banana into the couch, I made this! It looks white here but she's actually on very pale greenish paper, I think she would look good mounted onto something other than black. Below you can see her half finished. Now my kitchen is covered in tiny slivers of paper that look like fingernails. I guess I have a date with the hoover...

Am very excited, went to the hardware shop today and got me some tiny circular punches a la elsita They are something called 'nail punches' so I hope they work. The downside is I can't try them out because the teeny toddler is sleeping. Boo! I also can't try them out first thing in the morning because the grumpy-in-the-morning-husband will be sleeping. Boo!

Thats all for today, the sicky kid is awake
